Islands has lost competitiveness as a tourist destination for 2010 to stand as the sixth reference community and give the Canaries the fifth, where it was in 2009, according to the conclusions of the panel prepared by the Alliance for Tourism Excellence (Executor) with collaboration with Deloitte.
The study “Tourism Competitiveness Monitor of the Autonomous Communities’ of points to Executor Islands has lost about 2.8 points in the main indicators that articulate the ranking of the destinations with greatest strengths and leading, in 2010, the Commonwealth of Madrid.
Taking into account the six pillars that articulate the panel of tourism competitiveness, community down positions in relation to the marketing and commercial support to the sector (ranked 13th out of 17), constraints of space management and tourism (12), diversification tourism product (8), training and human resource efficiency (12).
Specifically, aspects of marketing are the ones who have fallen, according to the panel Executor and Deloitte, a decrease of 9.4 points in the indicators referred to measure competitiveness, followed by a fall of 6.3 points on issues related to the diversification of tourism products.
Among the specific disadvantages of the community is its position in social networks (number 16 among the 17 autonomous communities) and marketing actions in this type of support (rank 15). In addition, Baleares is at the bottom regarding the provision of health services (number of physicians and healthcare plazas).
It also suspends the implementation in the supply of nature tourism (number 17 in the ranking of the Autonomous Communities), shopping tourism, the number of visitors to the business tourism segment (since 16) and low introduction of thermal tourism. Besides, it warns the quality of training (post 14) and little support for continuing education.
In the public sphere, it alerts the low stimulation of innovation and low efficiency in tourism management skills, which joins the classic problem of seasonality of tourism in the archipelago.
