During the National Forum on Health Tourism recognized the strategic importance of Border States such as Tamaulipas, where there are nearly 10,000 health care facilities and half of them located in major border cities like Nuevo Laredo, Reynosa and Matamoros.
The Secretary for Economic Development and Tourism of Tamaulipas, Monica Gonzalez Garcia, and the head of the Ministry of Health (SS) in the state, Norberto Trevino García-Manzo, agreed that our organization has competitive advantages derived from its geographical position, tourism infrastructure and health class to consolidate itself as a competitive destination, with international standards of quality patient care and abroad.
In addition, state Health Secretary said that Tamaulipas is distinguished by its modern infrastructure, specialists covering all disciplines, clinical laboratories, imaging studies and cabinets to support the technological vanguard. In turn, the Ministry of Economic Development and Tourism said that the State Government’s participation in the forum helps to align public policy of the Government of Emilio Torre Cantu aimed at positioning our organization in the world market for medical tourism.
The Secretary of Tourism, Gloria Guevara Mango, accompanied by the federal Health Secretary Jose Angel Cordova Villalobos said that this form is part of the strategies of the National Tourism Agreement to increase the competitiveness of the country to which was attached Tamaulipas in March.
In this regard, work tables, Gonzalez Garcia said the State Government has supported the first stage in the creation of bilingual medical directories and certification of providers of the border to strengthen this sector. Meanwhile Trevino García-Manzo shared the successful experiences of our state members of the medical community, legislators, the different levels of government and the forum participants.
At present the demand for medical care abroad is a market of 40 million visitors with an economic income of 50.000 billion. Our country currently has 5% of health tourism from abroad, with high growth potential compared to the U.S. market.
